Writing the Rules... Session Two

Screen Shot 2020-07-08 at 16.48.20.png

Dear all,

We have been slowly brewing the next writing the rules...  skill share which is now confirmed as this Wednesday 8th July from 4pm - 5.30pm. If you would like to come please RSVP and we can send you a link to the session. There is limited space in the session to keep it intimate, but we will plan to run them more regularly so will open it up again for the next one.

Artist and educator Sadie Edginton will co-host it with me, and this time we will plan to have more time for informal discussion and learning from each other and one longer planned activity.

At the start of the session we will informally share recent practice experiences and tips/ techniques, so feel free to bring an image/ object to share.

We will then do a longer activity (half hour) and we are looking for someone to host this. This could be anything from a question you really want to delve into, or an experiment about a particular way of working, it could be a group reading of a relevant text, or a trial run of an activity you will do with the wider public. This can be a work in progress, or a start of an idea - it definitely doesn't need to be something finished and we aim to make this group a space to work things out and get feedback in a supportive environment.

Also I have written up notes from last session on this WIP website https://socialpracticing.wixsite.com/practicingsocial/

and lastly! if you have any feedback or suggestions we welcome them too.

Best wishes,

Alex and Sadie

During the introduction participants were asked to share an object that illustrates something about their current practice. Willow Mitchell from the learning team at Towner Eastbourne showed us an object she had made with her partner at home to navigate them both using video conferencing tools at the same time in a small shared space. The creation of objects and codes to navigate space and sound.

Alice Gale-Feeny is an artist working with performance via dance, writing and facilitation. She led a workshop around Zoom as an ‘interface’, drawing on her research into Third Space. Through a physical movement exercise she brought our attention to the felt and imagined experience of space both with ourselves and others, proposing we look at anatomical 'interfaces such as the spine and pelvis, and try a process of 'measuring' between body and screen; self and other. Alice then asked us to draw an image describing our relationship with others through the screen (diagrams can be seen below). The workshop feeds into her MFA research in Creative Practice: Dance Professional Practice at Trinity Laban, London.
