Exploring sound and computer/phone/tablet microphones. Activity led by Jenny Pengilly

IMG_5725.JPG

1. Suggest a warm up activity for the group to do

16:10:36     From Alice Gale-Feeny : The YES game: everyone makes a statement, any statement, true or false, and the group must respond with an enthusiastic ‘YES!!!!!’

16:11:27     From Bryony Hussey : One person, perhaps the facilitator, using the index finger, draws in the air an object near their screen for others to make down on paper. The others have to draw what they see as a continuous line.

16:11:34     From Alice Gale-Feeny : Assemblage of objects on screen. Artist florence peake led a workshop where we made assemblages live on zoom, pointing our screen towards a desk or an area of our carpet. It wasn’t an ice breaker, but could function as one in this context.

16:12:11     From Alice Gale-Feeny : so we would need to collect some objects to assemble

16:12:20     From Small Acts : Exit and enter the frame…

16:13:00     From Jenny Pengilly : Exquisite corpse with your body going down the tiles e. head, body, legs

16:13:05     From Sadie Edginton : One person starts a chain of asking questions - and passes it on - ‘I really want to know… ‘ and choose someone to ask. i.e. and fill out the end of the question (nothing to personal).. and then pass the chain on.

16:13:18     From Alexandra Parry : Describe another member of the groups background

16:13:44     From Cicilia Östholm : Conventional: WHERE IN THE WORLD ARE YOU RIGHT NOW?

16:13:48     From Jenny Pengilly : Synchronised movement as a group

16:14:19     From Youngsook Choi : One question that is related to the theme of the workshop and everyone responds by changing their zoom name.

16:14:32     From Cicilia Östholm : Unconventional: TAKE A SIP OF YOUR BEVERAGE AND TELL US WHAT IT IS. (IF YOU DON’T HAVE ONE TELL US WHAT YOU WOULD HAVE LIKED.)

16:16:48     From Cicilia Östholm : Purely out of curiosity: TELL US WHAT YOUR ZOOM CALL SET UP IS LIKE. (How do you prepare for a zoom call?)

2. What parts of Zoom can be played with?

4. Jenny Pengilly then led two activities exploring the cameras on our devices as well as exploring the sound and microphones. When we explored our cameras we experimented with our position in relation to the camera for example standing at distance, lying on floor with camera, having the camera high up. We then started walking with our cameras, finding ourselves at our front doors filming the sky in our respective locations. We explored inbult microphones by making sounds using objects close to hand (see top of page for an example of this).
